ABOUT ME

About John Taylor, REALTOR® in Blair County, PA

Buying or selling a home comes with a lot of moving parts. Most people aren’t just looking for a house—they’re trying to understand what to do next, what matters, and how to make the right decisions along the way.

That’s where I focus my time.

I work with buyers and sellers throughout Blair County, including Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Bellwood, Duncansville, and surrounding communities, as well as parts of Cambria and Huntingdon counties. My approach is simple: clear guidance, realistic expectations, and a process that makes sense from start to finish.

Who I Typically Help

Most of the people I work with aren’t looking to be sold—they’re looking to understand what they’re doing before they make a decision.

That usually includes:

  • First-time buyers who want to understand the process before jumping in (you can start here: Buying a Home in Central Pennsylvania)
  • Buyers using VA financing who want clear guidance on property requirements, inspections, and how the loan actually works in real situations
  • Buyers dealing with inspections, financing questions, or appraisal concerns
  • Sellers who want to price and prepare their home with a clear plan
  • Homeowners working through inherited properties or time-sensitive situations

Every situation is a little different, but the goal stays the same—help you understand your options so you can move forward with confidence.

How I Approach the Process

Real estate can get complicated quickly—especially once inspections, financing, and timelines all start overlapping.

Instead of adding to that, I focus on breaking things down in a way that makes sense:

  • what to expect at each step
  • where deals tend to run into issues
  • how decisions early in the process affect what happens later

That way, you’re not guessing your way through it.

Experience Across Different Situations

A lot of my work involves first-time buyers and everyday home sales, but I’ve also worked with:

  • VA buyers navigating loan requirements and property condition standards
  • Higher-priced homes where pricing and presentation matter more
  • Investment-related purchases where long-term value is part of the decision
  • Older homes that come with the kinds of inspection and condition issues common in this area

Situations like inspections and financing are where most deals become uncertain. If you want to see how those scenarios typically play out, you can read more here:

Local Knowledge That Matters

Real estate isn’t the same from one area to the next.

Working in Blair County and the surrounding region means understanding how things actually play out locally—pricing differences between towns, what buyers expect in different ranges, and the kinds of issues that come up with older or rural properties.

It also means being aware of area-specific requirements that can catch buyers and sellers off guard. For example, in Cambria County, sewer lateral line inspections may be required before a sale—and in certain situations, that responsibility can fall on the buyer, especially with foreclosure or bank-owned properties.

That kind of local detail isn’t always obvious at the start, but it can have a real impact on how a deal moves forward.

That local context helps avoid surprises and keeps things moving in the right direction. You can explore more of these topics here:

Recognition and Professional Background

I’m a licensed REALTOR® with John Hill Real Estate, a brokerage with a long-standing presence in the area.

I’ve been recognized with the John Hill Real Estate Ace Award as a top sales performer, and I’ve also been featured in FastExpert as a 2026 Top Real Estate Agent - Altoona, PA.

Those are helpful benchmarks, but the focus is always the same—clear communication and steady guidance throughout the process.

What Clients Say

One of the most common things clients mention is that the process felt more manageable once they understood what was happening and why—but don’t just take my word for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to be ready to buy or sell before reaching out?

No. Most people I work with start by asking questions and figuring out what makes sense for their situation. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting the conversation.

  • Do you work with first-time buyers?

Yes. A large part of my work involves helping first-time buyers understand each step of the process—what to expect, where issues can come up, and how to make informed decisions along the way.

  • Do you help buyers using VA loans?

Yes. VA loans come with specific requirements, especially when it comes to property condition and appraisals. I help buyers understand how those requirements affect what they’re looking at and what to expect during the process.

  • What kinds of situations do you usually help with?

Most of the situations I work through involve things like inspections, financing questions, pricing decisions, and timing. My role is to help explain how those pieces fit together so clients aren’t left guessing.

  • What areas do you cover?

I primarily work throughout Blair County, including Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Bellwood, and Duncansville, along with parts of Cambria and Huntingdon counties.

  • What if I’m not sure what I want to do yet?

That’s completely normal. Many people start there. We can walk through your situation and talk through your options so you have a clearer idea of what makes sense before making any decisions.
